I talk a lot about writing consistently. Write consistently. Write consistently. I say it a lot, because I truly believe this is the best way to avoid writer's block and work toward one's writing goals. I've learned from experience that coming back to write consistently, even if it's just a few minutes a day, can make a huge difference. I really believe it, because I've seen it work. It works for me. It's worked for others I've spoken with.
But ultimately, there's something I want you to keep in mind. If writing consistently feels bad to you, if the reminder to write consistently makes you feel guilty or unworthy, you do not by any means need to do it. I also firmly believe that writing comes from the heart. The best writing, I believe, is passion driven, and therefore, it should feel good. Writing certain scenes may not feel good. Working around a hectic life schedule may not feel good. Ultimately, it comes down to what season you're in. If it doesn't feel good, or if writing consistently isn't working out for you, don't beat yourself up about it. It may not be the season of your life where writing consistently every day is possible. That's okay. Also, if you ever want to write consistently and it's not happening for you and you need a friend to talk with, reach out to me. I'm always happy to talk with other writers. Especially if you truly desire to write, but you're struggling to make it happen. Over the last year, I've gone through a whole lot of things that has changed my schedule, my ability to write, and my mindset about writing. Through it all, I certainly still believe that writing every day, even if it's only for a couple of minutes, is the best way to keep your story flowing and avoid major plot or story roadblocks. However, I also understand that sometimes life may require us to put things down. We may be too tired to get those few minutes in at the very end of our day. We may be rushing from one thing to the next and not have the brain juice required to remember to sit down and write. That's okay. Take care of you. Get some rest, go for a walk, clear your head. Whatever it takes. But for goodness sake, if you want to write, don't put it down for long. If you feel inspired to tell that story, keep the consistency as much as you possibly can.
